Workshop: “Energy-Efficiency Solutions for Hot and Arid Regions”

Prof. Dr. Amani Ibrahim participated in the workshop, “Energy-Efficiency Solutions for Hot and Arid Regions,” organized by the Authority of Research and Development, Renewable Energy and Environment Research Center. Dr. Amani delivered a specialist lecture on the Iraqi Green Building Code and reviewed Arab sustainable building rating systems, including Iraq’s “Al-Nahrain Green” system, with an emphasis on aligning design and operation with hot and arid climates to reduce energy consumption and improve environmental performance.

The Director General, along with officials and academics from several ministries and universities, attended the workshop. Discussions focused on accelerating the adoption of green building standards in governmental and university projects and on strengthening partnerships among research entities, municipal directorates, and the private sector.

In her talk, Dr. Amani explained the basics of the Iraqi Green Building Code and what is needed to put it into action, compared Arab rating systems and discussed how they could work together, and shared ways to keep buildings cool in hot, dry areas using insulation, ventilation, shading, and water management. She also explained how to track performance and measure impact using indicators for energy, water, waste, and thermal comfort.

Dr. Amani Ibrahim stated, “Mainstreaming green building principles in our hot and arid environment is a practical step to cut consumption and improve quality of life, and it is also a sustainable investment in public health and the economy.”
